Ian Tang (BFA HKAPA, MFA School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong) is a Hong Kong-based cross-disciplinary sound artist and composer. As a composer, his work has spanned various media, including contemporary dance, short films, theater productions, and new media performances, as part of his research into interactive, generative sound programming and electro-music composition methods. Ian is currently exploring the interrelationship between computer music, urban soundscape, and sound synthesis as a medium of narration and immersion. In 2024, Ian received a nomination for Best Original Music (Drama) at the Hong Kong Theatre Awards for the play “Les Fleurs du mal” by the Artocrite Theatre.

Ian has collaborated with several major art institutions, including the Hong Kong Art Festival, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, West Kowloon Cultural District,  Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Floating Projects, Videotage, Theater  Space, Hong Kong Dance Alliance, Speaking Bodies Sharon Vazanna Dance, and Van Huynh Company etc. Among his performances and works are staged in Hong Kong and internationally, for instance, TechBox 2024 Level66 Arcade Project@The Box, Human, Common Territory@HKAPA 2024, BirdSong@M+ 2023, UNHEARD Sound and Music Festival 2022, Sonic Anchor@HKAC, as well as overseas occasions, such at BankART KAIKO in Yokohama, Athens Digital Arts Festival, Walthamstow International Film Festival, Rich Mix in London, School of Visual Arts in New York City, Bath Spa University Theater in London, Ufa Fabrik in Berlin, Nonsuch Studios in Nottingham, Ormskirk Arts Centre at Edge Hill University, Lugano Animation Days in Switzerland and Pavilion Dance South West in Bournemouth.
